In August 2017, the GSM Association (GSMA) published a report written by TMG describing the experience of Vietnam and other Southeast Asian nations with regard to the migration to digital terrestrial television and the use of the resulting digital dividend. Vietnam is highlighted as a strong example of a Southeast Asian country that is implementing a careful plan for this transition. Vietnam’s digital migration experience is compared and contrasted against examples from other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Indonesia and Thailand. The report provides practical recommendations for members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) related to the digital migration and digital dividend. Lessons learned in Vietnam are identified in the report, accompanied by a checklist of relevant issues and questions to be addressed by governments planning their digital migrations.

The report was launched at a GSMA/ASEAN workshop in Manila, Philippines that used findings from the report as a starting point for additional discussion.

The full report can be downloaded here and a summary is available here. Additional information on the GSMA/ASEAN report and workshop is available here.
