Arlington, VA – October 25th, 2013 – TMG was selected through a competitive tender process by the Telecommunications Superintendency of Costa Rica (SUTEL) to undertake a technical and market study of the 900MHz, 1800MHz, 1900/2100MHz and 2600MHz bands in order to advance the development of mobile services in Costa Rica.
“Our team at TMG is looking forward to working with SUTEL on this project,” said Janet Hernandez, President of TMG. “The mobile market has grown significantly since the introduction of competition in 2010 and it seems timely for the regulator to be conducting this type of study given the importance of mobile services and applications to the broadband development of a country,” she added.
The project consists of a market and technical analysis to determine the viability of allowing additional operators to enter the mobile market in Costa Rica. TMG’s activities will include assessing the sector from a market and technical perspective, providing options and recommendations on auction design, providing recommendations on the appropriate spectrum packages to auction, estimating the economic value of each of the bands, and calculating the costs of migrating the current operators out of the 900 MHz band in order to allow for mobile services to be offered in that band.
